Strong and Silent

by Danielle

strong and silent. is a type.
the ability to be quiet, or patient, a virtue.
proud girl.
writing a draft. to whom, she could send anything.

a woman walks to the site where her relatives were burned.
she has never met them nor did she know of their existence before today.
but, looking over the edge, imagining them falling. naked. helpless.
she loses them. for the first time.

i have told this story?
about the train tracks.
the end of the line. the summertime.
how all of the flowers covered everything.
and. it was beautiful again?

that evening, i called my mother
and i told her i loved her. unabashedly.

we pray for things when we need them. we are good at forgetting.

Remember this day, in which you came out of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage,
for by strength the hand of the Lord brought you out from this place (Exodus 13:3)

i was your exodus.

the body reproduces its cells every seven years.
tattoos are permanent because the ink gets locked in lymphatic vessels
underneath the dermis.

What is the path of the soul as it attaches to the body?

I recognize faces of those I know in those I have never before seen.

Our roles are determined to a great extent by the shape of our bones.

Material determines importance, as does evidence of time.

His path was built around her, and then she was removed.

What is the resolution of memory?

There is much dirt between us.
